1. How has YMCA prepared you in your career

I have been in the customer service industry for over 10 years. During this time I have interacted with a diverse amount of people.

I have only just recently been hired on with YMCA. I applied to Bombardier prior to the YMCA job offer. So far the relationships are respectful, friendly and enjoyable. I have receieved positive feedback in the 2 weeks that I have been there.

In terms of program administration, I have made small suggestions regarding efficiency in communication.

Pros

Ability to interact with people, whether it was my counselors or the children that we served.

Overseeing the summer parks programs, which in collaboration with the city of Hamilton we had four sites which served over 250 kids to a drop in program to give them opportunities over the summer.

Great experience, it was everything I looked for in an internship plus a little more.

Pros

I get to teach kids about something I love to do and have fun doing it. I become their role models and they look up to me and its rewarding.

Cons

I dislike setting up and breaking down, lots of heavy lifting.

Job Duties

To teach classes, run gymnastics camp, work birthday parties, set up and break down the gym, clean the gym.

Summary

I loved it and it helped me grow as a coach and hopefully I can work in a more serious gym someday.

I am moving to a different city to continue my education.

How did this career prepare you?

I hold a customer service position with the YMCA where I am responsible for processing transactions, handling any issues that members have, and being the main point of communication between departments and members.

Cons

I still currently work at the YMCA,though, only on sunday. They did not have many hours available for me.

The experience and training is very often and I think it would be condusive to my success at this company.

The hours interfered with my college schedule and the organization of the site i was at was terrible.

I got a long great! he would always ask me if i could cover at different school quite a bit and i would always do it, so i was a very reliable and flexible employee.

Suggestions for the CEO

I improved my communications skills because im not the type to speak to people im very soft spoken and at the YMCA i had to break out of that shell to do my job and fulfill the expectations

Advancement opportunities

Yes i was offered to be a site supervisor. I didn't take it because like i said previously it just interfered with my college schedule and i had to pick my education over a job.
