This is a physics place. Physicists tend to not follow any laws or ethics or social rules that we normally expect at work, if it behooves a personal goal, interest or gain of one of them.
The woman who ran this place was very erratic. She flew off the handle for the oddest reasons, often that had nothing to do with you. (She, for example, probably did not know my name--I was not her assistant--but she yelled at me once that she hates going to the airport early and no one will make her get there early!! Another day, the company let everyone go home early for a holiday, and I was one of the few people left; she came down the hall yelling at me, asking me why no one was still at work).
Many people there are very odd. This is the only place I have ever been where there are lots of "lifers," so they become arrogant. Abusive verbal styles are prominent, and women are mainly the target, even by other women. The men just try and stay out of it.
All the low level people are women, and underpaid. The HR director is a schmoozer, so don't believe anything he promises on the interview.
Says 35-hour work week but that is not true in reality.
