Pros: During snowbirds' season, you can easily make a lot of money, granted that you work 40+ hours.
Cons: Here is what I've run into @ Applebees.
1) The host or hostess will continuously double or triple seat you. After seeing about 20 of them quit, I would suggest better training.
2) Personally, I think it would be a fair trade to drug test all new hires. I've seen plenty of servers do as minimum as possible. Teamwork needs a substantial improvement.
3) Management is a catch 22 where I work. When one manager tells you one thing, the other tells you something else. Another thing, management needs to be counciled on the emphasis of how to speak to their employees. Being rude, making harsh comments to other employees is a definite Con.
4) My own experience: I'm a college student and former military. I have never been late, never called in, and have never had complaints from guests or have been written up. However, the management does not make a schedule based on the availability you have given them. Also, in the past, I've learned it is best to save your time slips in the case your hours might not add up to the hours listed on your stub. My store is actually in a lawsuit because of that by several former employees.
5) the cleanliness issue needs to be addressed. It is company policy to wipe down tables with used towels that have been soaking in water for an entire shift without being changed until the next shift 5-6 hours later.
6) every restaurant out there has some sort of infestation. In our case it is roaches.
7) it is company policy to find your own replacement to cover a shift if you call in. I stated earlier that I have never called in, only because I could not find someone to cover my shift. So, that being said, my flu, spread to a number of servers and even the manager.
8) the tips can get really bad during season due to foreigners. In some countries, the servers are hourly, so that small tip in their eyes is actually a compliment. but that is all restaurants.
9) guests view the restaurant as a roadside diner. I once had a guest call me a wet-behind-the-ears bartender because I legally was not allowed to serve him any more cocktails. He had no idea I am a former Marine, deployed to Iraq and have a combat medal.
My salary is $4.62/hour. If I work a 40 hour week, after taxes, I can expect to see $100 every two weeks as a paycheck.

I have worked for Applebee's for about a year now and i absolutely hate it. They are not fair whatsoever there. They don't keep promises and also they pick favorites. If they don't like you or something that you do even if it's a mistake, you will be cut from the schedule and only have one shift a week like i do. I am very respectful and dont get credit for anything i do there.
I make $3.63 plus tips, which is maybe $10 at the end of every shift.
