I worked at Giant Eagle over the summers when I was home from college. They were very nice about letting me start and stop my seasonal scheduling whenever was convenient for me and still having me in the system for the following summer. I was fortunate to have a pretty consistent schedule; I worked five days a week from 9-4 most of the time, with Sunday and Tuesday usually being my day off. The managers were nice about letting me take off any days I needed as long as I let them know ahead of time, such as a week-long summer vacation (not paid though of course). The work was certainly repetitive; I just kept getting bins and boxes of stock from the back and put things away all day every day, in addition to pointing out the location of products to customers. But it was low stress and I got along with my managers and departmental co-workers. I wouldn't want to do that job all year round, but as something seasonal or just for a few hours a week, it wasn't so bad.
PROS:
- Consistent scheduling
- Pretty low-stress
- HR manager works right there in the building
- Decent pay for a retail job (I started at $7.75 in 2006)
- Don't have to worry about registers unless you seek training for it
CONS:
- Union dues and other deductions
- Very small break room with nowhere to store possesions
- Not much contact with co-workers outside of department
- Repetitive

Very few pros. Met and worked with a few good people. 20 years produce experience and got paid the same as 18 year olds, doing three times as much while they played with their cell phones and didn't care a bit. Terrible new store manager at Hayden and Cosgray. Poured my heart and soul out for G.E and tried my hardest all for nothing but more rules and zero appreciation. Showed up on time and kept a positive attitude just to get dumped on. Terrible company to work for unless your a kid looking for minimum wage.
10% discount for employees. Keep it. It's a slap in the face for this adolescents job.

Very low wages. Decent benefits but pay is low. The union doesn't help.
