As a customer, I loved this place. When they ran ads seeking clerks, I jumped at the chance. My job-application responses were so good in fact, I was asked to interview at two stores.
Even better (or so I thought), both stores made job offers. One store offered a temporary position, the other a permanent one. When I left the temporary slot to take the permanent one, I was told that my start date had been "delayed", and was then contacted by their regional manager and accused of everything except hurricane Katrina.
Needless to say, the offer of permanent employment was withdrawn.
I don't mean to sound full of myself, but I think Laurie Colson realized she'd made a mistake by tossing the temporary position to me, and didn't want to bear the indignity of her "mistake" working at a competing store. So she called Half-Price Books' telephone tough-guy Joe Des(c)h, who did her dirty work for her. Is she that good, Joe?
You'd think I was the first person who ever left them/her, until you see the section on job abandonment in their employee manual. So it's happened before? Can't imagine why...
