Working at Jackson Hewitt:

Jackson Hewitt is not a good place to work for. They pay slightly more than the minimum wage and pay very little commission. Jackson Hewitt gets unethical people that come in that want to cheat on their tax returns with fake W-2s, or by claiming kids that aren't theirs. Some people scream at the tax preparer when the people don't get the money they were hoping for, or when they have to pay JH's high fees. JH won't let the employees tell people over the phone how much it costs so they don't scare people away. From the looks of things, Jackson Hewitt may possibly not be around much longer. Their sales have been steadily declining. Several people have called wanting Jackson Hewitt to not send in their returns to the IRS after they did their own tax returns with Turbo-Tax or some other software because they found out they could get a couple of thousand more back than with Jackson Hewitt. At JH, some of the customers aren't going to be overly bright or much computer literate. When there's a computer glitch, they'll vent their anger on the employee. Also, Jackson Hewitt get lots of people who stop by and call on the phone for free advice. Sometimes Jackson Hewitt will have people calling wanting to help with Turbo-Tax. What gets me upset are these well-off richly spoiled people asking questions and have no intention of filing with JH and just want free advice.
