It takes a long time to get promoted at JCPenney. You get many lateral promotions before you move up vertically. For example, you have to spend time as a department manager for many different departments before you can move up. Hours and schedules fluctuate but you will work more than 40 hours a week. The store manager has a big say in determining the culture of the store. Some store managers work their associates do death and are rigid while others are the opposite. JCPenney wants its store managers to hit their numbers. If they do this they have free reign to do as they please. Salary is good, plus you get a bonus based on how well you meet certain sales goals.
