This is my first work expirience ever, so i have nothing to contrast it to. i have to begin by saying that for the first few months, yes, MONTHS, i was so clueless about what was going on around me. to say that the training i recieved was dismals, would be an understatement. my interview was basically "so, when are you avaiblible?". at the time i was hired, the store was desperate for workers because it was christmas time and most employees were forced to quit (any vacaitons longer than 3 week will result in termination).
when i got the job i was extatic and my first day was so nerve-wracking! for an hour i signed paper work in the office. afterwards i was asked to stay and help close the store and maintain standards, which i was completely unaware the procedures for. i recieved about 30min of training which the manager and i only went over product. nothing about the actuall job requirements was mentioned. instead i was left to shadow another associate.
before all else, i have to say, the actuall associates are some of the best people in my life! i've made great friends with a handful of them. all others are very nice at least, so i have nothing to complain about when it comes to the staff. (although a girl from my school, whom i despised did work there, but those are outer forces at work). the manager are really nice, towards me at least. i notice that they are stricter to others, but i really do believe that is based on their level of competance.
in order to do well in this position and enviroment, you need to be extremely adabtable, energetic and flexible. you also need to be somewhat fake. this is the toughest part i believe. it actually takes up so much of ones energy to be so frikken nice ALL THE TIME! its so exhausting!! but being a master of this will allow you to move forward. that may osund really bad, but honestly in any minimum wage paying job, you really are only in it for the money, so who cares. on tough days i always repeat to myself 'just think of the money'.
the schedual is always based on how much you sell because thats what drives hours. some weeks i will literally work every single day, and others im lucky to have even one shift in. the company used to book based on talent, but have since changed it to how avalible one is. so the more hours youre avalible, the more they will book you. i deffinately have to agree from other reviews, that call ins are the worst! they are also based on how much money the store brings in. its so hard to get rid of them and so pointless to have them. not to mention that the manager will often be upset at people who frequently switch shifts. they will then deny future shifts to spite this.
sometimes the managers can be so crazy! they are almost always demanding that you 'give it that extra push!' ' sho them why we are best at bras!' 'come on ladies! we need mullahh' but most of them are really awesome people who are easily approchable. if you follow the rules, you are sure to succed. and quite honestly, there are some girls who i dont htink should be employeed. they actually do nothing! and the managers need to take note. with those of us who really try, it is embarassing and difficult to have mediocore associates on the floor. you need to have a commitment to the task at hand, and actually do your job, not matter how low the pay is, it is usually the best we can do for the moment--so suck it up!
salary: 10.25/hr (minimum wage)
pros: bra gratsis, 30% off throughout Limited Brands company (victoria secret, pink, la senza, bath and body works), sometimes we will receive 50% off for certain dates
cons: you need to want to be there, other wise you wont have a good expirience.
