COMMENTS

There are great opportunities for advancement. Great enviorment to work in. People are friendly and truly work together.

Bonus plan is not the greatest-not much reward for the revenue you bring in. I agree with the other review-there is too much emphasis on processes rather than actual selling.

Great culture, but losing focus in the sales world

COMMENTS

Marriott has a great history & culture and the best distribution of any hotel company in the world in terms of quality of brands. As a sales person, working for Marriott gets you in customers' doors like no other company can. It's a company of high ethical standards, class and prestige. However, the sales world within Marriott has changed dramatically over the past few years, focused more on systems, processes and ways to cut costs. There is much less effort on working with customers and getting senior management in to meet with customers. The company used to have Vice Presidents that went out on sales calls, but now they just come through for meetings, meetings & meetings. Sales Directors are continously being asked to do more and more - but most of the tasks are adminstrative tasks, not sales-related items....which brings less time to work and develop your sales team. HR departments are being phased out of hotels, requiring Sales Directors to spend 10-15% of their time each week wearing an HR cap. Marriott loses the marketing game and "speed to market" with most initiatives to Westin/Starwood, but they still have a better culture and stronger internal processes.

COMPENSATION

Benefits were good....but am now making almost 20% more in salary (now at $110k). But I left Marriott to get to a situation I felt comfortable with and in control of what I'm held responsible for.

COMMENTS

Marriott Hotels, a very large and diverse company, is primarily a hotel management company with many hotel brands under it's umbrella.

If you enjoy working with people and meeting new people, this is the place for you. Marriott has long been known as the leader in the hospitality industry and they did not get to be that by accident. The culture stresses the importance of taking care of the customer as well as taking care of its associates.

If you like meeting people, like to travel and be a part of culture that is family oriented, go for it.
