WORK ENVIRONMENT

hierarchical, cut-throat, high-pressure, unprofessional

Working at Nebraska Book Company:

Every day you wonder if this will be your last. Workers are expected to work long hours. The work is hard both physically and mentally. Employees are treated with disrespect. Everyone is considered a possible thief. No appreciation is shown for the great efforts put forth. No raise again last year, no bonus, constant criticism and huge egos of "higher ups". No one that works here feels that he or she is secure in their employment. Company seems incapable of changing to meet consumer demands. Constant down sizing of staff makes it impossible to provide good customer service. This company overall is a dismal place to work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

hierarchical, cut-throat, disorganized, unprofessional

Working at Nebraska Book Company:

This is, by far, the worst place I have ever worked. Management makes no attempt to know anything about its employees, much less respect them. Everyone I worked with was treated as less than human, a machine or cog, to be exploited, nothing more. Now reward for initiative, although if you give a manager a good idea, and it's implemented, he'll take the full credit for it. The pay is abysmal and there is no such thing as a raise. A person can work here for decades and still live below poverty level. If they cut your hours and you can't pay your bills, you're told to apply for food-stamps! Do not work here if you don't have a partner with secure employment!
