WORK ENVIRONMENT

Working at Northrop Grumman:

This is with regards to the Linthicum facility near BWI airport.

This place is a museum of incompetence, run by the insane for the benefit of the corrupt. While there is no shortage of good engineers here, they are constantly marginalized and beaten down by managers who range from morons to borderline sociopaths. Idiocy is promoted, corruption is rewarded, and the blame for failure is dumped on the people who actually do their jobs.

For years this place skated by, muddling along despite the failings of its leadership. Promotions were given based on connections and nepotism, quality workers were tossed aside, and all of this was considered acceptable. Doing a good job produced no results, goofing off yielded promotions, and vandalizing a rival’s office while he was away on vacation was acceptable if you were the son of a V.P.

All of this finally caught up with Northrop in 2010, when years of belatedly submitting proposals of appalling quality finally resulted in a severe lack of new work for the foreseeable future. Naturally, the criminal leadership punished the Engineering staff instead of admitting to their own mistakes, and the lives of over 200 engineers – many of them senior employees who had performed admirably over decades – were ruined as they were laid off in the middle of a Depression. Not a single manager or business “leader†suffered for their actions that led to this, of course.

But what type of people made these decisions? Perhaps one excellent example is that of a senior engineering manager at Northrop and a man who was directly responsible for the engineering layoffs and the focus on “getting rid of the old guys.â€

He was arrested October 23, 2010 for vandalizing dozens of campaign signs in the Glen Burnie area of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It was entertaining to watch the company try to sweep his appalling behavior under the rug – they expected us to give him more respect than was given to any of the poor souls who were laid offer earlier this year.

With this type of leadership – criminals who believe they are above the law – is it any wonder Northrop is such a pathetic joke of a company?
