WORK ENVIRONMENT

hierarchical, strict, cut-throat, conservative, old-fashioned, disorganized, political, bureaucratic, unprofessional

Working at Nova Southeastern University:

Do not teach here! This is the worst School of any university I have experienced, and I have worked at several. The Dean is a dictator...dishonest unethical, authoritative, and manpulative. He was forced out of his former school, Ohio University. His Assistant Dean of Administration is his hatchet man. If the two dislike you, you are done. They will lie, make up stories, and bully you. There is NO such thing such as Academic Freedon here. And there are NO Faculty rights. All that is written in the manual about Academic Frreedom and Faculty
Rights is absolutely false. Do not ever speak up, offer an opinion, or disagree with the administration. This school operates in secrecy... no transpaency, no openness, no collegiality, and no recognition of scholarly work. It is operated like a Super School District. People want to leave, but jobs are tough to find so everyone keeps their mouths shout and heads down. Avoid working here if you can. I wish I had known this before I took a job here.

The students are good people who want to learn. And they appreciate effective teaching. Some faculty members are friendly, but there are many cliques. There are no departments, so it is tough to make connections. Faculty loads, assigned courses, and committee work depend on who you know.

Working at Nova Southeastern University :

If you are a out-going person with goals and ambition, DO NOT WORK HERE. The school of education is all about politics. Unless you know someone with "authority", you'll never have an opportunity to advance. In addition, the pay ISN'T competitive AT ALL. I was told by my new employer that I was severely under paid. You will find alot of back stabbing and cut throat type of behavior. My best advice is to use the tuition waiver if you want to go to school and stay under the radar, because this isn't the place for you.

Fischler has really great and hard working individuals there, but none that can make a difference. The guy in charge, treats that place like his own personal friend employment factory and he's a dictator, just LIKE CASTRO. He's disrespectful towards the actual DEAN OF THE SCHOOL, but he's allowed to do whatever he wants so that's the Dean's own fault. In addition, if he doesn't like you, he will definitely make it his personal business to get rid of you or demean you for ANY REASON. He doesn't allow supervisor or fellow colleagues to manage their staff and he's doesn't understand the meaning of LINES OF AUTHORITY. He's set up a hostile environment where he's allowed to intimated and bully the employees with no fear of accountability or responsibility WHAT SO EVER.

On another note, the tuition waiver for undergrad is great, graduate, not so much, you have to pay taxes on your classes after 5200 bucks. The benefits are so-so, and raises are nothing to jump out of your seat for (3%).
