Okay maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. Old Navy Cards (ONCs) are like the life and breath of Old Navy and are often more focused on then customer service. Every shift you are expected to have someone open at least one, and if you don't meet your weekly "goal" you will have some form reprimand-ation. This may seem easy, but as very few people will open a credit card if they aren't checking-out yet it can be next to impossible to get ONCS if you aren't at the register. On the flip side, if you 'sell' a lot of credit cards, expect to be treated like gold and gain a lot of rewards (i.e. flipflops, movie tickets, gift cards, paid lunch ect.) Also, as in most retail atmospheres, it's a "I'll teach you once, then you're on your own" type place so make sure to ask different managers (or a really nice associate) anytime you need help. Plus the store is constantly destroyed, so be prepared to fold heaps and heaps of clothes. Reviews are only once a year for the entire store despite when you started meaning you only get a raise once a year.
Other than that, Old Navy can be a great experience. The people are normally great, and the minimum pay is above minimum. However, as far as hours go, expect anywhere from 4 some weeks to 20 the next. And, as Old Navy just started scheduling only 4 hour shifts, expect to devote a ton of days to them if you want any pay. But for a highschool/college student this is great as it gives you time for homework, extracuriculars and friends. And, if you absolutely can't work a scheduled day, Old Navy is normally pretty good about helping you find someone to take your shift or letting you call off. In addition, the "no uniform" policy is great for teens/young adults as well.
Overall, a good "first job" place but after a while it just gets tiring to deal with the credit card BS
