I needed a job fast. They were hiring in November for the holiday rush. They don't hire "seasonals" so I was hired as a part-time employee. They also said that they don't usually let go of people either, but just lessen the hours; they also said if you really want to stay after the holiday season, they always find a way for you to stay (but I guess with less hours?) Anyway, I don't know what will happen to me now as the holiday season has ended.. but I do see that my hours are decreased. I asked for 20 hours a week. They said they can offer only 15. I accepted. But this week I'm working 12 hours.... so... I do see that it's starting to go down. Most employees are part-time. Some work only one day a week. Most shifts are about 3-6 hours long. Working over 6 hours gives you a break, and you have to punch out for breaks. Most of the time they will schedule you for 4 hours shifts... so you don't have to take breaks. Mgrs are nice. They do push for sales and getting credit cards and phone/email captures, but they aren't annoying about it.. so it's not bad. They "sale chat" you before your shift, in which they will tell you what happened the day before, how much they made, how much was the goal, and what your sales goal is today, etc. All those things are good to know, I think.
PRO:
-25% discount for employees (total purchase, including sales items)
-The way they run their business is not bad right now. I like the "sales chat" at the beginning of the shift.
-Friendly
-$9.65 is not bad for starting retail positions right now, I think, because most places are $8/hr, right?
CONS:
-Little hours available
-Hardly ever get Sundays (time and a half). Sundays are designated to the same people...
I'm paid hourly, so that's all I know.. It seems like only managers are full time at this place.. everyone else is part-time... doing 3-6 hours shift most of the time...
-$9.65 an hour (this is considered competitive to them because it's the holiday season. I'm not sure how they normally pay the sales associates)
-no benefits, since I'm part time.
-flexible about hours, respect your requests
- time and a half on Sundays (but you won't get this schedule if you just started)
-Perks: 25% off for your purchases

Great people and a great culture. They want you to have fun at work and enjoy your job. Pier one believes with that comes better customer service. Pier one really strives to deliver top service.
Flexible hours, good benefits, and stock purchase plan. The downside is the pay itself is not very good. I was earning in the mid 20s.
