At first, I thought that Ross would be a good short-term job to have while in college. I started out in the fitting room, had no less than 12 hours/week (I averaged about 16) - great pay for a live-at-home college kid, great hours (even though they varied). Then I was moved to the registers (and on the floor). It was absolute hell and I rarely had above 8 hours. The pay was very poor for the work I had to put in--dealing with disrespectful customers, cleaning up the store (everybody knows how messy discount stores-including Ross-can get), even having to be a second parent to the kids who would run around, unsupervised, around the store. There is no recognition and rewards for great work (other than a silly "TRUE card" that is hung on the breakroom wall), and the Employee Of The Month is decided by drawing all the "TRUE cards" out of a hat, not by choosing a truly outstanding employee. I was constantly being micromanaged by some of the FES (front-end supervisors)- a few of them were pleasant to work with and did not micromanage, but others made me want to walk out on my shift. Scheduling is very random, you never know which days you work week-to-week, which makes it inconvenient. Have to travel to the store to find out the days you work for the following week if you weren't working when the schedule was posted (can't call to find out). Makes you wonder why a company making record profits can't have at least an automated email system that will automatically send employees their schedules if they insist on a varying scheduling scheme rather than a predictable, steady schedule. Overall, I am very disappointed with my experience at Ross and do not recommend working there.
Pros - 10% discount (but this is standard across all retail employers)
Cons - not worth it for the meager pay you receive

Un professional DM dont care about there employees. Dont know what they want always changing things. Under payed for the amount of work.

Worst place to ever work. Very underpaid for the amount of work done. Very overworked. Completely unfair. Most most managers are lazy mean and get on you about everything like you cant do anything the right way. They also cannot make up their minds about what they want you to do

Very fast-paced with lots to do. You can get promoted quickly but the pay isn't great. The stores are well run. My boss is a good guy but I'm sure there are bad ones out there.
A low 29K.
