The physical working environment was good, although the temperature had some wide fluctuations. There are some excellent workers. However, all the managers I encountered lacked good judgment and competence -- some even had poor attendance. One manager has had many, many complaints against her over the years from all levels but still remains in her position despite unprofessional, unethical and incompetent behavior. Favoritism was the watchword on my unit, with those who socialized with the managers or showed themselves to passively follow the director enjoying many perks, extras, and protection from reprimand. Favorites may also be excused from certain duties. No support for training; you are told to pay for it yourself and use your own vacation time to attend. Managers have been known to use support staff for everything from child care to dropping off personal items to Good Will boxes. HR, while they will acknowledge mistreatment of workers, will not help to remedy anything. There is no job security with recent layoffs, reductions in hours (even for those employed over 20 yrs), and "call outs." There are pay equity issues with people less qualified and experienced sometimes making more than those more qualified. Managers sometimes "delegate" their administrative duties to direct care staff.
You get 26 days per year to include your sick, holidays, training/conference days, vacation and personal. No assistance with any licensure fees. No tuition reimbursement. No bonus. No overtime in some units. My salary was not comparable to others working there or to other positions with some similar duties within the organization or outside of it.
