Working at Systems in Motion:

I applied at Systems in motion in July of 2010. I was offered a job, but not one at the rate at which I was willing to work. They called me back within a week or so after my application for an initial interview with an HR person.

Then, on a Friday around 8pm they scheduled a technical interview to be done over the phone. I was told this was going to be a technical interview, but no technical questions were asked. Instead, they more or less had me go over my experience. I have more than 5 years of IT experience and described some of the projects I had worked on.

This technical interview went fairly well and i was called in for an in person interview. This interview maybe lasted 15-20 minutes. It wasn't technical and they didn't seem too interested in my experience. It was more about telling me about the company and showing me their offices.

A few days after this I received a phone call and was offered a job. They asked how much I wanted to make and I asked for around $60,000 a year. They offered me $32 an hour. I said ok. After we hung up I did the calculations and noticed that this was more than I had asked for. Apparently so did the guy that offered me the job because he immediately called me back and reduced the offer to $25 an hour. The project couldn't afford what they had offered me. I offered to work for $30, but didn't want to go too much lower than that. He said he would have to look into it and call me back.

Shortly after that, the same night, I got a call asking me to do a second technical interview. I agreed and received a call around 8pm. This one was more of a java trivia type of interview. I wasn't asked to solve any problems. Instead, I was asked questions like, "what is the maximum size of integers in java?" I didnt' do as well on this interview as I had previously. I'm not much of one for trivia.

A few weeks after this interview I was called by Systems in Motion again on Saturday. They wanted to know if I did any PHP coding. I do not.

My experience with Systems in Motion was that they were ill prepared to do any hiring. The people involved in the hiring process seemed really inexperienced. They didn't ask enough technical questions before they offered me a job, didn't know what the range of salary was that they could afford, and simply didn't seem to have an idea what skills they really wanted to have in the position before they offered me the job.
