Working at U.S. Xpress Enterprises:

Went to orientation in GA then they sent me back home to Fl. Waited 1 month for a trainer to pick me up. Trained with him for 2 weeks and then couldn't get along and his smoking with windows up was killing me. So they put me in a hotel and I waited 9 days for a new trainer. This trainer was nice but he snored like crazy. Finally went to terminal in Markham, IL to test and graduated. They gave me my own truck and sent me to Chicago to pick up heavy load of Clorox. Trailer was old and emergency brakes didn't work. Took it 15 miles to Chicago and couldn't drop it because kingpin lock was broken. Had to call breakdown to come get it unlatched. Took truck back to Markham and turned my keys in, rented a car, and drove back home to Jax. Trucking is a hard job, it is hard to be away from home, and to live with someone else will drive you nuts. I rode Greyhound buses more than I ever wanted to. I think the trucking companies need to pay a lot more for training if they want people to stay in the business. That $400/wk was not close to being worth it. It should've been about $1000/wk. No wonder the industry is short on truckers. They don't pay what it is worth to do that job. I will not go back unless that changes. USXpress is not a bad company. I think it is the industry that is bad.

Us Xpress Enterprises Salary and Benefits:

Training pay was $400/week. After that you get paid based on how long the run is. I think it ranges from .24-.33 per mile for newbies.
