WORK ENVIRONMENT

cut-throat, disorganized, unprofessional

Working at Van Ru Credit Corporation:

I don't know where to begin. The "training" was mostly ten days of role-playing, with about three hours' worth on one of the computer systems we'd be using. And of the fine art of asset recovery? Not a minute. Inadequate barely describes it.

I was assigned to a team where I was the only person of my race and gender on it. The manager seemed to resent my presence, as it got in the way of their desire to operate a "finishing school" for people of a certain gender and race.

In my thirty-years in the workplace, I have never worked for a manager as biased, as ignorant and as unprofessional as Joyce Tillis. I hope she drops to her knees in appreciation of Van Ru, because if not for them, I don't know what she'd do.

Fifty-percent of new hires don't see their three-month anniversary, because, well, that's the way Van Ru wants it. Not the most-productive or efficient business model in the world, but the continuous stream of new hires keeps the "trainer" busy and it is, after all, their company to do with as they please.

My advice to you is look before you leap. Please.
